Twitter accidently resets user account Passwords

Boston:  Twitter, while conducting a routine security screening, accidently changed the passwords of a large number of their active users. They changed the password of more than 140 million active users. This problem took place due to an administrative error.

Twitter conducts this security screening to identify the accounts that may have been compromised. When in some cases they think that the account has been actually compromised, they reset the password and send an email to the account owner to let the users know of the changes made by them.

The spokeswoman of this social- networking site, declined to say how many twitter accounts were affected by the error. She declined to provide additional information about this situation as well. She said that there had not been a security breach. Twitter, however, is taking measures to resolve this issue and restore the actual user account passwords which were reset due to a system error.
