Top ten horror movies of all time

Some of us love the thrill and fear that we get from horror movies. I am one those who really enjoys horror movies. There are various types of horror movies and each of them is quite uniqe. Here is a list of Top ten horror movies of all time.This ranking is strictly according to me so feel free to comment.

1. The Exorcist (1973)

The Exorcist is a horror picture directed by William Friedkin In the year 1973. The movie was originally based on the novel called Exorcist 1971. This is the story of a young girl possessed by a demon whose mother attempts anything to get her back. When she is disappointed by the doctors at the hospital, while they cannot figure out what is troubling the young girl, she asks two priests to conduct an exorcism on her to see if she can recover. According to me this is one of the most horror and disturbing movies of all time.

2. Psycho (1960)

Psycho is another one of the famous movies of well-known and the legendary Alfred Hitchcock. The story of this movie is based on a Novel by Robert Bloch written in the year 1959. This movie is about a secretary, hiding at an isolated motel after stealing money from her boss and the disturbed hotel manager and what he does. The Shower scene, the murder of Janet Leigh’s character in the movie is the best known scene in the history of cinema.

3. Jaws (1975)

A horror thriller motion picture made in 1975, Jaws will leave you with Goosebumps on your body.  The story of the film is based on the novel written by Peter Benchley.  The story is about a resort town called Amity Island, where a giant great white shark eats the visitors and the tourists at the beach. This film was directed by Steven Spielberg.

4. Alien (1979)

As a science fiction horror film, alien was directed by Ridley Scott in the year 1979. This is the story about a space ship which lands on a secluded planet for some investigation when they find some strange creatures. This story happens in the future. This movie is a must see for horror movie fans. The movie is based on the screen play written by Dan O’Bannon.

5. Silence of the Lambs (1991)

The silence of the lambs is another thriller movie which has both fundamentals of crime and horror. This movie was directed by Jonathan Demme in the year 1991, starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. This movie was based on a novel written by Thomas Harris. In this film a young FBI Trainee, persuades the help of a cannibalistic killer (Dr. Hannibal Lector) to find another serial killer who skins the victims.

6. The Shining (1980)

A master piece by Stanley Kubrick, the Shining was released in 1980 as a psychological horror picture starring Jack Nicholson. The story of this film is based on the novel of the same name written by Stephen King. This story is about a family who goes to a secluded hotel during winter where the father is subjective of an evil spirit that exists there which makes him violent. While this is happening the psychic son can see horrifying things in this hotel. This is a must watch for all those horror movie fans out there.

7. Bride of Frankenstein (1935)

Bride of Frankenstein was directed by James whale in the year 1935. This picture was a follow-up to the first Frankenstein film, which was made in 1931. The first movie is based on the novel written by Mary Shelley called Frankenstein, 1818.

8. Rosemary’s Baby (1968)

Rosemary’s baby is another American horror film. This movie was directed by Roman Polanski in the year 1968. The story is based on the novel written by Ira Levin. This is a story of a couple who moves into a new apartment when the wife becomes mysteriously pregnant. The worry about the safety of the unborn child troubles her and starts controlling her life.

9. The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)

Directed by Tobe Hooper, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is an American horror film. This film is about the story of a few friends who go to visit their grandfather’s house when they get hunted down by a chainsaw wielding killer and has family who are a bunch of cruel cannibals. This is one of the scariest movies of all time which was made in the year 1974.

10. Night of the Living Dead (1968)

Night of the living dead is one of the first Zombie movies which were made in the year 1968. Directed by George A. Romero, it is the story of a few people taking shelter in a farm house from many blood thirsty zombies who are looking for them and will kill and eat them in case they find them.
