Top 10 Musical Hits/Songs of the Year 2011

As 2012 sweeps in, people and sit back and recollect those wonderful things that occurred in the year that just swept past them. People discuss various issues be it be movies or politics. One such issue which is ruling the market, is the top 10 list of good and bad movies; also musical hits. Here, are top ten musical hits that have rocked the box office and the happening parties.

  • Darling (7 Khoon Maaf) – This song from the dark movie 7 Khoon Maaf became an instant hit after it was shown on T.V. The lyricist of the song was the evergreen lyricist Gulzar and the music was given by the director of the movie, Vishal Bharadwaj. The song, was sung by Rekha Bharadwaj and Usha Uthup. The song featured Priyanka Chopra, the protagonist dancing in a Russian Wedding ceremony. The song is still listened to and played in a lot of parties.
  • Dilli (No one Killed Jessica) – This song from the movie No one killed Jessica was composed by National Award winning music composer Amit Trivedi. The lyricist was Amitabh Bhattacharya. This song’s popularity spread like wild fire for its rhythmic beats and the rebellious lyrics. To quote some, “Mera Kaat kaleja Dilli..”
  •  Saddi gali (Tanu Weds Manu) – This popular dance number is from the movie Tanu Weds Manu. Even though the movie was not largely popular all across except some parts this song was a momentous hit. Written by Rajshekhar and composed Krisna, this song has been sung by Lehmer Hussainpuri.
  •  Mit Jaye Gam (Dum Maaro Dum) – This quite a controversial movie for its dialogues. It became a hot topic of controversy after the famous song “Dum Maaro Dum” was used in the movie. The lyrics were changed though. Overall both the movie as well as the song wrecked havoc all across the nation. The music director of the movie was Pritam.
  •  Bhaag D.K. Bose (Delhi Belly) – This was by far the most controversial song of the year 2011. A foul North Indian curse was juxtaposed with D.K. Bose and sang effectively to create a rebellious feeling among the youth of the country. The music director of the movie was Ram Sampath and the lyrics were written by a couple of talented lyricists like Amitabh Bhattacharya, Ram Sampath etc. The song was acclaimed broadly by not only the youth, but also by the middle aged people.
  • Chammak Challo (Ra. One) – This famous song is from the hindi sci-fi movie Ra.One. The music was given by Vishal Shekhar and the lyrics were penned down by Vishal Dadlani. The song was sung by American R&B singer Akon. This is what made the song more popular. The catchy lines “Girl you’re my Chammak Challo”, made it more popular. People can easily pick up.
  •  Sadda Haq (Rockstar) – The music for the movie Rockstar, has been given by A.R. Rehamn who replaced Pritam in this Imtiaz Ali film. The lyrics have been written by Irshad kamil and sung by Mohit Chauhan who improvised his voice for a change in this particular song. This song became a massive hit due its roughness and the way actor Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayed it.
  •  Ooo Lala (The Dirty picture) – The movie that changed the dimension of hindi cinema, “The Dirty Picture”. The most famous song from the movie “Ooo lala” is a foot tapping number and is widely acclaimed by critics. The music was composed by Vishal-Shekhar and the lyrics were written by Rajat Arora. The song was sung by Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Ghoshal.
  •  Kolaveri Di (3) – It is quoted as the song of the year 2011. It is the sound track for an upcoming Tamil film called 3. The song was sung by Rajnikanth’s son in law Dhanush. The lyrics were penned by him and the music was given by Anirudh Ravichander. After the song was telecasted, it became the most viewed song in Youtube. The song is an English song sang with a tamil accent. The lyrics are designed in such a fashion that the song sounds light hearted and funny. The song had a terrific impact on the audience and many versions of the song have been recorded in different languages.
  •   Chikni Chameli (Agneepath) – The music for this 1990 remake has been given by Ajay-Ratul and the lyrics have been written by Amit Bhattachrya. This song is the hindi remake of the Marathi number called “Kombdi Palali” from the movie “Jatra”. The song gained a lot of popularity, as it was featured against Katrina Kaif.
