Food poisoning is a food borne illness. It is caused when you eat or drink something that contains harmful germs like bacteria, viruses or parasites.
  Reasons which cause Food Poisoning:

• Half cooked food or not cooking food properly
• Poor personal hygiene of the food handlers
• Using food that has already expired or passed the expiry date.
• Contaminated water used for cooking food

Here are 10 easy ways to prevent your family from food poisoning:-
1. Wash your hands properly with an antiseptic soap before cooking; also make sure that you wash your hand before having food.
2. Wash fruits and raw vegetables thoroughly before consuming them. The most important thing is to wash raw meat properly in order to kill harmful bacteria and germs present in it.
3. Clean your knives and cutting boards properly especially when switching from one food item to other.
4. When you shop for any tin food or packed food always look for the expiry date. Consume the food products before their expiry dates.
5. Cook food thoroughly. The food should be steaming hot. Especially poultry or other non vegetarian food. You can check whether it is cooked or not by poking a fork or a knife into the deepest or thickest part of the food.
6. If you are reheating the food, make sure you heat the food till its piping hot and avoid reheating.
7. If food has to be refrigerated, set your fridge temperature between 0 to 5°C (32 and 41°F).
8. Always cover raw meat and store it on the top most shelf of the fridge where it stays away from other foods.
9. Never buy food that is uncovered or handled by unhygienic hands; for example road side food.
10. Do not prepare food when you are not well. Do not touch the food when you are having cuts and sores.

Prevention is always better than cure. By following these steps you can definitely prevent your family from the harmful effects of food poisoning.
