The best of 2011

Every year is a roller coaster ride of events. Some caused smiles and happiness while the others bought upon gloom and misery.

For starters , we lost many people to death in this year.Millions wept for each of them because of their outstanding contribution to the world. From the world of entertainment we lost one of the most talented singer Amy Winehouse and the evergreen diva Elizabeth Taylor.While Amy Winehouse died at the age of 28 due to alcohol poisoning , Elizabeth Taylor died at 9 due to heart failure.The entire country mourned at the death of Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the much loved spiritual leader who passed away at the age of 84.Saudi Arabia’s very own crown prince Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz Al-Saud took his last breath at the age of 82.And the death that became a relief for many -the death of Osama Bin Laden, the infamous terrorist responsible for many attacks such as the 9/11, in a shootout by the U.S military forces.Steve Jobs , the cofounder of Apple and chief executive of Pixar , surprisingly gained more popularity after his death.

In context to Steve Jobs , Apple has been making news in some way or the other the entire year.With the launch of the new Ipad2 and Iphone4s, Apple took over the world of technology with a storm. The much talked about Siri feature of the Iphone4s was one of its USP’S.The Siri allowed you to perform functions by just talking to it. It also replies with answers to your questions.

The Royal Wedding was all people could talk about at a point of time. When Prince William married Catherine   Middleton on the 29th of April through matrimony with a price tag of £20 million, everyone in UK was on the streets and the rest of the world was glued to their T.V sets watching it live from home.

Mother nature showed everyone here sinister side as an earthquake and Tsunami struck the coasts of Japan killing 15,844 civilians, injuring 5890 of them while 3451 people were missing.Catastrophic at a comparatively smaller level was the floods in Brazil that killed 903 people in January 2011.

It was celebration time for the people from South Sudan as it became an independent state in June 2011. In context of politics, a revolution by the people of Tunisia led to the overthrow of President Zine El AbidineBenAli and a rule of political unrest and lack of freedom. This sparked revolutions in both Egypt and Libya where Hosni Mubarak and Muhammad Gadaffi were overthrown for the same reasons

It was an emotional moment for India when they won the world cup after a long 28 years under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. And ofcourse the memorable entry of Anna Hazare who started a fast to death until the Lokpal bill was passed.This bill held a cause of anti corruption and was passed on the 28th December but not in its full effect.

The Murdoch media company caught in a phone hacking scandal where they hacked into the conversations of various people for news and information. In the context of scams , India was in the headlines for its 3g scam that involved government officials like A Raja , Kanimozhi and Chidambaram , who illegally undercharged mobile telephone companies for allocation licenses to create 2g subscription for phones.

The eventful year that it was , here’s hoping 2012 is filled with positive surprises and less turbulences.
