Nokia Lumia 920

Nokia launched its latest phone Nokia Lumia 920 in India in January 2013. This is Nokia’s latest venture into its range of smart phones. Nokia is looking to compete with Apple and Samsung and with Nokia Lumia. Nokia will attract some smartphone fans looking for class.

These are the most remarkable features that Nokia claims Lumia 920 has:
Camera with PureView technology that helps in taking blur free pictures even in low light conditions.
PureMotion HD+ display, the most effective touchscreen that is sensitive to the slightest touch of the fingertips and makes every color clear.
Nokia City Lens helps to discover the city by looking through your camera’s viewfinder.
You can stream unlimited music for free, tap into the latest tracks and create your own channels.
Innovative design with Nokia wireless charger.
Lumia comes with full versions of Microsoft Office and Outlook so that you can create and edit Excel, PowerPoint and Word documents.

Display size: 4.5″
Display technology: PureMotion HD+
Primary camera sensor size: 8.7 megapixels
Camera: Nokia PureView
Power Management
Maximum 2G talk time: 18.6 h
Maximum 3G talk time: 10.8 h
Maximum 3G standby time: 460 h
Music playback time: 74 h
Processor name: Snapdragon S4
Processor type: Dual-core 1.5GHz
How far these claims are true:
Display: Nokia Lumia 920 has a 4.5 inch screen with IPS LCD display with 1280X768 resolution. IPS LCD shows much better colors than AMOLED that was used previously. The colors are quite bright so you can clearly see the display even in direct sunlight. The high resolution makes text appear crisp and gives a better web browsing experience.
Body: Lumia 920 has a unibody polycarbonate shell and buttons are of hardened ceramic. Models come in black and cyan have a matte finish and models in red, white and yellow colors have glossy finish. Though glossy finish can be tempting choose matte finish if you are prone to getting scratches on your phone.

Camera: the camera of Nokia Lumia 920 stands out as a remarkable due to its optical image stabilization technology. This helps in shooting high quality, full HD videos even on the move. It also takes exceptionally clear photos even in low light. Arguably right now it is possibly the smartphone with the best camera out there. But one drawback is that as it strives to take good pictures even in low light it has slow shutter speed and hence if you have to hold the camera still for a while after taking the picture.

Software : Nokia Lumia comes windows phone 8. The colorful appearance of windows 8 suits the colors of Nokia Lumia 920 very well. Lumia 920 comes with Nokia Drive, Nokia music and Nokia city lens, three very useful apps. Nokia Drive can sometimes prove to be more detailed than Google maps and with Nokia music app lets you download unlimited free music for one year.

In spite of all these plus points Nokia Lumia 920 fails at a few things:
Multitasking in Lumia 920 definitely requires improvement. As soon as any app goes into the background it is paused. This can be a problem for apps like IM+, Twitter etc. which operate in real time. Powerful and useful apps such as Gmail, Youtube, Gtalk are also unavailable in Windows phone.

The price of Nokia Lumia 920 at present in India is Rs. 38,199. Though die hard Nokia fans may swear that no other phone can ensure better performance or quality than Nokia, the price may be a bit of a disadvantage for Nokia as almost the same features are available in Samsung and HTC at half the price.
