Motorola Mobility leaves India; Shuts down website

Google’s subsidiary Motorola mobility exits Indian market and had announced that it would shrink its operations in India and lay off 4,000 employees worldwide as part of its global downsizing efforts.

The website of Motorola Mobility expresses “We are streamlining our business and support systems, and unfortunately, we’ll no longer have a dedicated website for India. Your local support site will remain open well into the future, and we’ll continue to provide support for our existing products.”

Google acquired Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in May this year in an effort to get its hands on nearly 17,000 major software patents owned by the firm. Motorola Mobility, which separated from the now-independent Motorola Solutions experienced heavy losses last year.

We will not see any new handsets from Motorola in the near future, for starters. Whatever handsets are available in the markets will be sold, but no fresh stocks will decorate the shelves.
