Employee Provident Fund is scheme, which was introduced by the government of India and it takes care of needs and problems of its members such as retirement, Family obigation, financing of insurance policies, medical care, education of children and housing. For those who are wondering what exactly this scheme is about, EPF is the process of the contribution of both the employees and the employer to a fund at the rate of 12% of the salary for the employees retirement needs. There are many employees who do not know how much their Employee provident fund balance is and they might not know how to check it either. Well thanks to Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (Ministry of Labout and Employment of Government of India), an online tool to check your EPF balance has been set up. With this online procedure you can manage and check your EPF any time. You can make an enquiry online and you will receive an sms on your mobile with the last update on your EPF information.
Here is the procedure on how to check your EPF balance:-
1. Go to http://www.epfindia.com/MembBal.html ( http://www.epfindia.com/ )
2. Select the currect EPFO office where your PF account is maintained.
3. Enter your PF account number ( do not enter extension “4th field”)
4. Enter your mobile number and name, accept all the terms and conditions and click on submit.
After this process is done you will receive a SMS from EPFO : EE amount : Rs.XXX and ER amount Rs.XXX as on <the current Date>.
EE = Employee Contribution and ER = Employer Contribution on date(shown in Account updated date) mentioned in your SMS. It does not show current balance of PF Account as on Today.
You should make sure that you enter the correct PF account number in the correct format otherwise it will show invalid Member id error.
