Home remedies for Dry Cough

Coughing is very annoying and irritating not only to you but anyone nearby. Coughing can cause distress and dryness in the throat but it is body’s natural way of clear out the mucus in the lungs and upper airway passages. So if you have a productive cough, do not try to hold it in, try to encourage it so you can clear out the phlegm in your lungs as soon as possible. But if you have dry cough then you have to keep it in and just get along with the tickle. The main causes of Dry Cough include common cold, post nasal drip, upper respiratory tract infection, whooping cough, air pollution, smoking, habitual cough, laryngitis, asthma, lung cancer, allergies, larynx disease etc.  Here are some home remedies in order to cure your cough at home but keep in mind that if your cough has still not been cured after a week, you must see a doctor.(tips on how to get rid of your cough at home):

1. Raw Onion – Cut one onion, take out its juice and add one teaspoon of honey to it. Keep the mixture for about 5 hours and then take the syrup 2 to 3 times a day. Onion also removes phlegm if combined with lemon and boiling water.

2. Gargle warm water with salt at least 4 to 5 times a day and before sleeping.

3. Oregano – Boil some oregano in a glass of water, filter it and drink the water as hot as you can tolerate to reduce the intensity of your dry cough. Do this 2 to 3 times a day.

4. You should have green tea or lemon tea with honey as it will help your dry cough and soften your throat.

5. Ginger lemon tea will help your dry cough.

6. You can make a sauce by grinding raisins in water and sugar. You should heat it until the sauce ready. Keep the sauce and take 20 grams before going to bed every night. Drink it warm

7. It will be very helpful to keep a humidifier in your room.

8. Hot turmeric milk – Boil milk and add turmeric to it. Drink it as hot as you can tolerate. It is not going to taste good but it is very good for your dry cough.

9. Cinnamon – add some Cinnamon to a hot cup of tea and drink it. This will give you some relief from the irritating dry cough.

10.  Soak almonds in water overnight. Remove the skin in the morning ground it with butter and sugar until you have a paste. Have it twice a day; morning and evening.
