Fruits for Diabetics

For Diabetics it is often difficult to decide to eat fruits or not. You might be worried about the high sugar content in most of the fruits which can be quite harmful for your condition. You do not need to worry anymore as there are numerous fruits that diabetics can have and be fine. These fruits do not affect the blood glucose levels or they might even improve the glucose and insulin sensitivity. Here are some fruits that are diabetics can enjoy.

1. Avocado – Avocado causes reduction in bad cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. This fruit contains potassium. Potassium is considered as a good treatment for Diabetes. Avocado also contains a healthy fat that improves the insulin and lowers the blood sugar level.

2. Apple – The main cause behind diabetes is metabolic syndrome. Study has proved that apple prevents this condition. This fruit is quite effective within 24 hours after consumption.

3. Grapefruit – Grapefruit is the perfect fruit for low carbohydrate diets. This fruit helps the digestive system and removes toxins from the body. Grapefruit contain Vitamin C, Pectin fiber and lycopene antioxidant which all together reduces the glucose level in the body. Grapefruit is one of the best fruits for controlling Diabetes.

4. Figs – Fig is rich in minerals and it has high potassium, calcium and iron which helps in curing diabetes.

5. Pomegranate – Pomegranate contain the richest mixture of antioxidants and they can be quite good for free radicals and chronic diseases and diabetes.

6. Cherries – Cherries are high in antioxidants which are good for stimulation of insulin in blood. Cherries are considered to be very good for diabetes as they are high in fiber and a good food for diabetes for controlling blood sugar.

7. Bitter Melon – This fruit can be found in health food stores and its alternative name in India is Karela and in other parts of the world it is called as ampalaya, corolla, caraille or charanta. This fruit lowers insulin resistance and blood sugar.

You should remember that all these fruits are good for diabetes but they should only be consumed fresh and not as dry fruits or sugar added juices. In dry fruit the sugar is concentrated and it can be very harmful to you if you are Diabetic. Juices are also concentrated in sugar as the fiber of the fruit is left out so always remember not over do it. You can drink juices and dry fruits once in a while but take it easy and have in very small proportions.
