The Koyna dam is the largest dam in the state of Maharashtra, and Koynanagar is a town situated on the Chiplun-Sangli state highway on the banks of the river Koyna. Amboli is situated in the laps of the Sahyadri hills in the Western Ghats. It is very close from Kolhapur, and is situated at a distance of 550 kms from Mumbai. Amboli boasts of its numerous waterfalls. It is also said that there are around 105 temples in and around Amboli.
Lonavala-Khandala can be called the midpoint of Mumbai and Pune. Duke’s Nose, Rajmachi trek are popular routes for trekking lovers. There are a number of resorts and water parks in Lonavala. Lonavala has many restaurants that offer variety of staple Maharashtrian food. It is a wise choice for a day’s trip during the monsoons.
5. Thoseghar Waterfalls
Thoseghar waterfalls are situated in the district of Satara, at a distance of 20 kms from the Thoseghar village. The waterfalls are extremely wide. The visitors are warned not to play any risky games, especially when it is raining. The fort of Sajjangad is situated very close from Thoseghar waterfalls, and these two destinations can be packed together in one, single trip.
Mahabaleshwar, also popularly known as the ‘town of strawberries’, is situated in the district of Satara. This place has several tourist spots. The Venna Lake and the hill resort of Panchgani are the main tourists’ attractions. Mapro Factory in Mahabaleshwar is famous for its jams, ice creams, juices and other such products.
