Best Family Dog Breeds

There is really no such thing as a typical family dog but you should always take all the factors into consideration before getting a dog. For instance you can get the same dog that lives with a big family and a farmhouse when you have an apartment in the city. Before getting a dog as your new family member you should consider factors such as how much time do you have to devote to the dog, how many people will be around during the week, is the house empty most of the time, is there anyone in the family who does not like dogs, is there a family member who goes running and jogging regularly and many more factors. After considering all these you can start looking for a dog. Here are the top ten best family dog breeds: –

1. Beagle

Beagle are sweet, friendly and very loyal dogs. Beagles are also incredibly intelligent and they are perfect for big families where they can get a lot of attention as they were originally bred as pack-hunting hounds. Beagles are not the smartest dogs, this makes it a little tough to house train them but it will surely work. Beagles are the most well mannered dogs and they are the most popular choice for family dogs.

 2. Rough Collie

Rough Collies are the second most popular family dogs mainly because of the 1950s TV dog. They are amazing animals and great pets but they are best suited for families with older children.

3. Basset Hound

Having a dog is big responsibility; this is a well known fact. Some of the best family dogs are the ones that do not really do much and make troubles. Basset hound are a very low-energy breed of dogs and they mostly just sit around and do not do much.

4. Dachshund

Dachshunds are great family dogs and they have quite a funny look even though they are a little short tempered and unfriendly around strangers. Dachshunds are very playful and never boring. They do not need much exercise but they are still quite active.

5. Lovable Mutt

Each Lovable mutt is unique as they are not exactly a breed. They are intelligent and friendly dogs and they perfect for dog sports. The only disadvantage is that their puppies are very small but you cannot tell if it will grow to be a small one or a huge one.

6. Labrador retriever

Personally Labs are my favorite dogs. Labrador Retrievers are friendly, loyal, intelligent, enthusiastic, work and play hard and they eat like they have never eaten before. Labs need a lot of space and attention and they are great with children. Labs are considered to be the best service dogs. Labs are an amazing, incredible and beautiful breed of dogs.

7. Pug

Pugs are quite a bizarre looking breed of dogs but they are extremely adorable. Pugs are very well tempered, friendly and serene animals. They are also quite active but because of their small size they only need a 5 miles run every day.

8. Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are the perfect family dogs as they are sweet and love anyone and everyone. They are best suited for large families, small families, teenagers etc. They are very intelligent which makes them easy to train. Golden retrievers trust anyone and assume that everyone is their friend.

9. Papillion

Papillions are not well suited for families with small children as they are fragile and they could get hurt easily.

10. Newfoundland

Newfoundlands are considered to be kind, gentle, well tempered and smart. They are sweet but it comes with a price. Their coat has to be brushed once a week and lot of attention.
