30 mn Samsung Galaxy S III sold in 5 months

Samsung Galaxy S III is now one of the fastest selling smartphones in the world. Touching the sky, Samsung sold 30 million S III’s in an astonishingly short span of 5 months.

Samsung Electronics launched the smartphone at the end of May, months before competitors began shipping the latest versions of their top phones. Samsung has also sold more than three million units of its Galaxy Note 2 in less than 40 days.

Seems like magic, the runaway demand for high-end smartphones fueled record profits at Samsung in recent quarters while other consumer electronics firms were hit by the global economic downturn.

Samsung, which also manufactures TVs, home appliances, semiconductors and display panels, got almost 70 percent of its third-quarter operating profit from the division that makes mobile devices, cameras and computers.

The Samsung Galaxy S3 models play host to a zippy 1.4GHz Cortex-A9 quad-core processor alongside 1GB of RAM and the option of 16GB, 32GB or 64GB storage capacities.

With an expansive 4.8-inch 1280 x 720p Super AMOLED HD display wrapped up within a svelte 8.6mm thick form factor, the Samsung Galaxy S3 camera collection sees an 8-megapixel rear-mounted snapper with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities line up alongside a second, 1.9-megapixel, forward-facing camera that boasts 720p HD video recording possibilities in its own right.

The Pebble Blue and Marble White handsets were available since launch, now Samsung has released new red, black, grey and brown models recently.

Research firm IDC ranks the South Korean firm as the world’s top smartphone seller in the last three quarters.
